The Investment and Venture Fund of the Republic of Tatarstan (IVF RT), in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, has officially opened the application window for the "Innovation of the Year 2026" competition.

The initiative is engineered to source, fund, and scale high potential technology projects across various Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) within the region. Its core mandate is to build an institutional pipeline for technology management, tracking and supporting intellectual property from early academic concepts up to established middle market corporations.

The competition features five distinct entry tracks covering the full innovation lifecycle:

● "Perspective": Tailored for high school students and vocational college undergraduates.

● "Student Startup": Designed for university undergraduates developing proprietary tech plays.

● "Technology Company": Restricted to small and medium sized tech enterprises with active top line revenue and a maturity profile of at least TRL 5.

● "Intellectual Property": For patent holders with verified commercialization metrics.

● "Corporate Innovation": Dedicated to enterprise level organizations demonstrating systematic R&D and innovation framework deployment.

Submissions are evaluated across five critical macroeconomic and industrial vertices:

● Advanced chemistry, petrochemicals, and new materials.

● Mechanical engineering, instrumentation, and energy systems.

● Information and telecommunications technologies.

● Biotechnology and the agrifood sector.

● Medtech and human health sciences.

Building on the momentum of the previous year's cycle which drew 228 applications the 2026 iteration prioritizes broader institutional enrollment, pulling in new research labs, university spin-offs, and established tech enterprises.

The competition provides non-dilutive grant funding and institutional backing across the categories:

● "Technology Company" winners: Up to 500,000 rubles.

● "Student Startup" winners: Up to 300,000 rubles.

● "Perspective" and "Intellectual Property" winners: 100,000 rubles.

● "Corporate Innovation" winners: Specialized institutional diplomas certifying elite R&D performance and systematic innovation management.

The application deadline for the Corporate Innovation track closes on July 30, 2026, with the expert underwriting and evaluation phase set to take place during the Kazan Digital Week (KDW) international forum. The deadline for all other competitive tracks is September 30, 2026. Project due diligence and technical reviews will run through October and November, culminating in official award ceremonies held at the annual boards of the respective line ministries of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Ultimately, "Innovation of the Year" serves as a primary vehicle to institutionalize Tatarstan's tech entrepreneurship ecosystem, embedding early stage founders into a structured commercialization pipeline from initial prototype validation to global market entry.
